Max White

As a high school athlete there were few things that Max White could not do well as a three-sport star for the Durant Lions before embarking on a sensational baseball career that included starring for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Many remember his versatility on the gridiron where he started in various roles for three straight seasons, all of which finished in the Class 5A playoffs. He was a wide receiver, kick returner, cornerback, free safety, punter, and kicker and ultimately even quarterback his final year. Whatever the coaches needed done, White likely did it while helping lead the way to an 18-15 overall record and postseason appearances each of his three years as a starter.

Max’s kicking exploits were renowned; including setting what is still the DHS school record with a 51-yard field goal against Tulsa Hale during his senior campaign.

While also participating in basketball for a pair of seasons, it was baseball where Max blossomed into one of the best players in the entire state. He led all Class 5A hitters with a .576 batting average his senior year while also blasting 16 home runs and nine triples. He drove in 67 runs, scored another 58 and stole 35 bases just for good measure. On the pitching mound, he added an 8-4 record with a 1.13 earned run average and 120 strikeouts in 67 2/3 innings.

That brought a scholarship offer from OU where he developed into a diamond stalwart for the Sooners. His initial season garnered freshman All-American honors from three different organizations and the honors progressed on from there. As a junior, he was the only member of the team to play in every game and then captured All Big 12 first team honors as a utility player while also earning All-Region recognition.

Max’s total career numbers included a .310 batting average while notching 53 doubles, 5 triples and 23 home runs along with 29 stolen bases.

White was inducted into the Durant Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Bo White

Few Durant football quarterbacks over the past three decades have possessed the true all-around athleticism and moxie of Bo White. He was a catalyst in just about anything he participated in for the Lions whether that was football, soccer, basketball and even baseball for one year. He guided the DHS football team to back-to-back state playoff appearances in his junior and senior campaigns.

Throughout his career, Bo dazzled Lion faithful with his tremendous ability for success until eventually graduating in 2008. He captured All-State honors in soccer his senior year as well as football where he was selected as an Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State quarterback.

His senior season football statistics alone were amazing with 1,594 yards rushing and 30 touchdowns along with 1,159 passing yards and 5 more scores. That is more than 2,700 yards total offense and 35 touchdowns in just 11 games. Bo was also a key member of the renowned Durant basketball team, which reached the 2006 Class 5A state semifinals after stunning highly ranked John Marshall in a four-overtime opening round classic.

After initially intending to walk on and play football at the University of Oklahoma, White elected to stay in Durant for a season at Southeastern, where he scored the game-winning touchdown to defeat East Central in his final football game ever. Bo then chose to try the soccer route in college and flourished. He earned first-team All-Region honors in 2009 and 2010 at Northeastern A&M Junior College, then moved onto Northeastern State and produced a Hall of Fame career.

His awards for the 2012 season for the Redmen were staggering to say the least with first-team All-Conference recognition along with All American, Conference Player of the Year and Central Region Player of the Year. That all culminated by being chosen as the University’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2012-13. He was inducted into the Northeastern Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.

White was inducted into the Durant Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Friday, October 10, 2025.
